Welcome to Rehearsal!
Getting to Rehearsal
Please plan to arrive with enough time to park, unload, and be seated before tuning at 7:25pm. We know life happens, but this helps the orchestra start together and make the most of our rehearsal time.
Communication
If you can’t make it, we’d love to know. Please flick us an email at kapitico@gmail.com or tell someone in your section asap.
Ride Sharing & Lifts
Carpooling is encouraged. If you’re able to offer a lift to someone, it’s always appreciated. Being ready when they arrive (instrument packed and good to go) helps everything run smoothly.
If you’ve arranged a lift or carpool and something changes, please let the other person know as soon as you can.
Yep, fuel is really expensive – that’s why carpooling is great. If someone is kind enough to give you a lift, it’s greatly appreciated if you offer a small contribution towards petrol.
Please Bring
- Your music stand (we’ll need the black ones for our concerts). Te Raukura has stands but not enough for all
- Your part
- Your instrument (or we’ll put you on kazoo or triangle!).
Tuning Time
We’ll be tuning at 7:25pm so we’re ready to make music right at 7:30pm.
When our orchestra leader stands up to tune, it’s time to focus! Listen for the oboe’s A, and we’ll tune in our usual order: brass first, then woodwind, then strings. If it’s not your section’s turn yet, just sit tight and stay quiet.
Remember to tune gently so everyone can hear that oboe A clearly. String players, start with just your A string, then fine-tune the rest once our leader sits down.
During Rehearsal
Sometimes it’s just hard to hear in a rehearsal room. Let’s keep our chatter to a minimum and make sure any conversations are quiet and relevant to what we’re working on. When the conductor is speaking to the whole group or another section, it’s helpful to give them our full attention.
Break Time
Feel free to relax during break, but please skip the individual practice time – let’s give everyone’s ears a rest!
Music Care
Your music is precious! Please take good care of it and return it straight after the concert. Use only soft pencil for any markings, and erase them before returning (except for bowings – those can stay). String players using shared parts: don’t forget to bring your original part to return at the concert.
If you prefer practising with photocopies, you can return your original part at any rehearsal since we always have the music box with us.
Wrap-up
Time to go – at the end of rehearsal, we’d appreciate a hand stacking the chairs and stands.
