DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE ORCHESTRA AS A PLAYER?
All ages welcome. If you live outside of Kāpiti, you are also welcome. The members are a mix of older, younger, student, working, not working, retired or current professional, ex-professional, semi-professional, and recreational players. We perform three concerts per year, with around 35 to 40 players, depending on who is available for each concert. Rehearsals are usually on Wednesday nights at Te Raukura ki Kāpiti (Paraparaumu) for the two months leading up to a concert and we normally add in at least one weekend afternoon rehearsal (see Players’ Info tab for an example of a rehearsal schedule).
Strings in all sections are always sought after. If you have an interest in joining us as a String or Harp player, please email Angela Ford, our Player Co-ordinator, with your name plus information about your experience. See our ‘Contact Us’ page.
Brass players are always needed on our list as current players are often not available for our dates. Woodwind gaps are usually in the Bassoon section, with vacancies in other sections from time to time. Percussionists also welcome to get in touch! Contact Angela, KCO Player Co-ordinator if you’d like to be added to our contacts list. See our ‘Contact Us’ page.
You don’t have to commit to playing in every concert but the ones you do sign up for, there is a modest subscription fee.
CONDUCTORS & SOLOISTS
We like to encourage both established and emerging conductors and soloists, who may or may not be secondary or tertiary students. If you are a conductor or soloist interested in being involved with a concert, please email kapitico@gmail.com.
