Organisation & Support

Kāpiti Concert Orchestra Incorporated

We are a Registered Charity and Incorporated Society and can be found at https://register.charities.govt.nz/CharitiesRegister/Search. The object of the orchestra is to encourage and promote the performance of orchestra music on the Kāpiti Coast and to present concerts by its members with invited conductors and soloists. The orchestra was formed in 2004 with Ken Young and many of the current players.

Resident Conductor

Donald Armstrong, Associate Concertmaster of the NZSO, will be our resident conductor for 3 years. This will involve advising and assisting the orchestra throughout the year, and conducting one concert per year.

Funding Support

Funding and resources come largely from ticket sales, members’ subscriptions, grants and sponsorship. We apply for grants, occasionally receive corporate sponsorship in the form of programme advertising, and sometimes receive donations. We are almost entirely reliant on a large number of volunteers to manage concert performances. Our main sponsor has been the Philipp Foundation. We have also received funds from Kāpiti Coast District Council Community Boards and from Kāpiti Coast District Council Creative Community Grants.
